Nautic Star NSR8501 / 12

About this boat

Coastal Marine Sales are delighted to present this exceptionally rare 2008 Nautic Star NSR850 enclosed-cabin RIB, “El Toro”. Originally conceived as a heavy-duty security and patrol craft, the NSR850 is an immensely robust offshore platform featuring a protected wheelhouse, substantial deck hardware and a purposeful commercial layout. We understand this example was originally sold through the Düsseldorf Boat Show and is connected to a series of security craft produced for use around the 2008 Olympic Games. The standout feature is its formidable propulsion package. During an extensive conversion, the original petrol installation was removed and replaced with a low-hour Marine Diesel Sweden MD 6.6 VGT—a military-specification 6.6-litre turbocharged V8 marine diesel producing 500hp at 3,600rpm and more than 1,000Nm of torque from low engine speeds. The engine is coupled to a heavy-duty Konrad sterndrive fitted with a new and uprated lower unit. The engine and sterndrive have reportedly covered approximately 50 hours. This proven combination has been supplied for demanding naval, military and specialist commercial applications worldwide. Commissioning and initial start-up were completed by Signature Marine, whose technicians had received engine training in Sweden. The project was also overseen with assistance from the former UK Marine Diesel Sweden dealer. During sea trials, El Toro achieved approximately 38 knots at 3,410rpm. The current propellers are understood to be slightly too heavily pitched, preventing the engine from reaching its rated 3,600rpm. Further propeller development may therefore release additional performance. El Toro has also benefited from replacement heavy-duty tubes manufactured by Henshaw, finished in a distinctive red and black colour scheme. Her enclosed wheelhouse accommodates twin Scott suspension seats, providing protection and support for the helm and navigator in demanding conditions. A substantial framework surrounds the open aft working deck, together with a full set of canopy enclosures capable of creating a protected stern area. Heavy-duty rails surround the bow, side decks and stern, reflecting the boat’s commercial patrol origins.
